VOCAL GIRLS PODCAST X THE GREAT ESCAPE: RACHEL CHINOURIRI

The VOCAL GIRLS podcast is a series where music journalist and VOCAL GIRLS Founder, Megan Graye, chats to artists about their past, present and future, and the music that intertwines these experiences. This is a series collaboration with The Great Escape Festival, so for this series Megan will be interviewing four key artists from their line-up. This week, Megan’s speaking to singer-songwriter, Rachel Chinouriri.

After recording some songs on a budget mic and her mum’s laptop aged 17, Rachel released her first EP ‘bedroom tales’ on SoundCloud. Since then she’s signed a record deal with Parlophone, had her music shared by her personal idols Coldplay, and most recently bagged a Hottest Record on Clara Amfo’s show on R1 with he latest single, ‘All I Ever Asked.’.

Rachel’s sound is delicate, soothing and layered. Her lyrics touch on relationship struggles and personal darkness, but her vocals feel bright and sincere. Her acoustic version of her song ‘So My Darlin’ has been streamed almost 10 million times.

Megan and Rachel chatted a few weeks back about her stage fright, why she decided to speak out against unconscious bias in the industry and what we can expect from incoming new music.

This podcast is produced, edited and presented by Megan Graye. Music for the podcast was composed and recorded by Jessica Edwards ad the graphics are by Alayna Hunte. They are both members of the VOCAL GIRLS team.
