INTRODUCING: SHANIA

Meet the new London singer making waves across multiple genres!

Shania is a 20-year-old indie-pop artist from London. Her passion for music transformed into songwriting when she started teaching herself guitar at age 13. Her debut EP, ‘Bloom’ released back in July, 2020 is a mellow yet energetic EP that tells the story of falling from happiness, but growing from the pain. She’s since released ‘Ur Type’, a collaborative single with house producer Martin Badder, which has also been remixed by Botan and grabbed the attention of Pete Tong and Danny Howard. It offers a promising showcase of her versatility in genres and sounds - a sure gift in today’s competitive industry.

VOCAL GIRLS caught up with Shania about her musical influences, hopes for the future and favourite tracks. Here’s everything you need to know.

Soft, deep and dreamy

Where are you from - and what’s the best and worst thing about the place?

I’m from London, the city of opportunities! Although it’s also the city of extremely extortionate house prices!

What are most of your lyrics centred around?

Most of my lyrics are centred around my life, but I sometimes base lyrics on the lives of people close to me and society as a whole.

What’s the first song of yours that people should listen to and why?

Pear, it’s a song with a huge message - a message that’s an embodiment of myself as an artist.

The three main artist inspirations for your music?

There’s so many to choose from but a few faves would definitely include Melanie Martinez, Hayley Williams and Mahalia. I massively value their artistic styles and songwriting.

Megan Graye

I’m Megan, the Founder and Editor of VOCAL GIRLS! I started VG in 2020 after realising the shocking lack of diversity within the music industry and wanted to do something positive to help change it! By night, I spend all my time and money on gigs and festivals and by day, I’m an award winning Content Producer, Music Journalist, Music Photographer and Radio and Podcast Host. I have an extremely eclectic music taste, loving everything from Fontaines D.C. to Billie Holiday, but I have a particular soft spot for indie, alt, punk, rock, folk, funk, soul and disco (couldn’t narrow it down anymore).
